Borderland Invitational welcomes Volleyball for four matches

ABILENE – Abilene Christian volleyball completes its tournament slate this weekend with the two-city, four-match Borderland Invitational, which is hosted by New Mexico State and UTEP.
The Wildcats (1-6) play their first three matches in Las Cruces, N.M. starting at 3 p.m. CT Friday vs. the Aggies (3-3). They'll then play a Saturday doubleheader against Samford (2-4) and Delaware State (0-3) before heading south to El Paso to take the Miners (1-5) Sunday at 1 p.m. ACU head coach Angela Mooney was an assistant at UTEP for nine seasons and also coached U18s for the El Paso Sunspots Volleyball Club.
ACU enters this weekend as the No. 1 blocking team in the Southland Conference (66th nationally) with 2.40 rejections per set led by junior Lauren Walker (1.14) and freshman Lorin McNeil (1.00). The Wildcats also are a top-five Southland team with 14.71 digs per set as sophomore libero Amanda Chapa stands 19th nationally with a 5.52 digs per set average (127 total).
Junior setter Kendall Bosse is the conference's leader in total assists with 221, but ranks third in assists per set with 9.21.
ACU is in the midst of a five-match losing skid with its most recent defeat taking place Monday night at Texas Tech (L, 0-3). The Wildcats lost by scores of 25-12, 25-20 and 25-20 while hitting .106 and blocking 8.0 shots.
Freshman Katelyn Mueller was ACU's leading scorer with 9.0 points followed by junior outside hitter Jacey Smith (7.5 points) and Walker (7.0 points).
