Men’s tennis wins fourth-straight match, beats UIW 5-2

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Abilene Christian men's tennis defeated Incarnate Word 5-2 Friday afternoon at the UIW Tennis Center to improve to 17-6 overall and remain undefeated in Southland Conference play at 2-0.
The Wildcats also pushed their winning streak to four matches and series-winning streak against the Cardinals to 13. UIW, which falls to 7-12 and 0-3 vs. the Southland, hasn't beaten ACU in a dual match since March 28, 2008.
ACU today continued its fine play in doubles, winning its eighth point over the last nine matches after losing five-straight during the month of February. Sophomore Paul Domanski and Jason Proctor lifted their Southland record at No. 2 to 3-0 following their 6-4 win vs. Sebastian Mortier and Joey Vatanadilok, while No. 3 freshmen Josh Sheehy and Sebastian Langdon remained undefeated at 4-0, topping Tucker Brown and Ryan Hoverson, 6-2.
In singles, the Wildcats received three straight-set victories from the bottom half of their lineup plus a big 7-6, 6-4 win at No. 2 from Proctor over Vatanadilok, who claimed the Cardinals' lone point Monday in a 6-1 loss at No. 6 Texas A&M.
Proctor is currently 2-0 vs. the league, 7-7 at No. 2 and 11-10 overall.
Further down the lineup, sophomore Hunter Holman won his fourth straight to tie Sheehy for the team lead in wins at 15 after beating Brown, 6-3, 6-2, and sophomore Henry Adams posted the same score at No. 5 vs. Mortier for his 11th win of the spring.
Langdon, who only has five singles matches under his belt this year, dominated Hoverson at No. 6, 6-1, 6-0.
Sheehy and junior Nico Agritelley each lost in three sets to Josip Smoljan and Francisco Bendana. Smoljan beat Sheehy at the top line, 7-6, 6-7, 6-0, and Bendana battled past Agritelley at No. 3, 6-4, 5-7, 6-2.
The Wildcats return to action Sunday at noon vs. Lamar and complete their four-match road trip Monday at 2 p.m. vs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
