Men’s tennis begins road trip with 5-2 win at UTSA

SAN ANTONIO – Abilene Christian men's tennis won its third-straight match to improve to 16-6 on the season, beating UTSA, 5-2, Wednesday afternoon at the Roadrunners' on-campus tennis center.
UTSA was last year's Conference USA Champion and its automatic qualifier for the NCAA Championships. This season though has been a struggle and today's loss dropped its overall record to 3-16.
The Wildcats won their seventh doubles point over their last eight duals to begin the match, and scored four singles victories at the No. 1, 3, 4 and 6 positions. Sophomore Hunter Holman netted the match-clinching point at No. 4, rallying from a set down to beat Christian Carrillo 1-6, 6-3, 6-4, for his 14th win of the spring.
Freshman Josh Sheehy, however, stayed one win ahead of Holman for the team lead, holding back Diogo Casa at the top-line, 7-6 (5) and 7-6 (8) in improving to 15-5.
Earlier in singles, junior Nico Agritelley became the sixth Wildcat this season to reach 10 wins after leading off with a 6-2, 6-4 decision at No. 3 over Joao Riquelme. Sophomore Paul Domanski then followed with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph at No. 6 over Fabian Brand in building a 3-0 lead for the Wildcats.
A winner of four-straight matches, Domanski is now 12-5 overall and 8-2 over his last 10 matches.
Doubles victories belonged to sophomore Henry Adams and Agritelley at No. 1 and Sheehy and freshman Sebastian Langdon at No. 3. The rookie tandem of Sheehy and Langdon is 3-0 since being paired together earlier this month at Nicholls.
The Wildcats remain in the River City Friday for a 12 p.m. Southland Conference match vs. Incarnate Word. ACU's women's team also will be in town to play the Cardinals.
