DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern Oklahoma State scored seven runs in the bottom of the seventh inning Friday to take an 11-5 win over No. 23 ACU in Lone Star Conference baseball action at The Ballpark in Durant.
The win pushes the Savage Storm to 6-4 overall and 4-0 in the LSC, while the Wildcats fall to 5-3 and 4-3. The teams will complete their three-game series Saturday with a noon doubleheader.
The teams were locked in a tight 4-3 contest going to the bottom of the seventh when ACU's bullpen and defense let it down.
The Savage Storm scored seven runs on six hits and two errors in the inning, both errors coming from shortstop Reed Watson. Kevin Phillips and Justin Miller each delivered RBI singles in the inning, but the big blast was Blake Gentry's three-run home run, his first home run of the season.
Brent Bray (1-1) absorbed the loss for the Wildcats, while Dan McKinney picked up the win. Heath Wyatt pitched the final 2 2/3 innings to pick up his third save of the season.
The Wildcats were led offensively by first baseman J.R. Roland, who was 2 for 3 with two RBI, and by Will Calhoun, who was 2 for 3 with one run scored and one RBI.
