FORT SMITH, Ark. -- The ACU Wildcats rallied from a 2-1 deficit after doubles play to take a 7-2 win over Arkansas-Fort Smith on Monday in non-conference men's tennis action.
The win pushes the 25th-ranked Wildcats to 7-4 on the season. ACU will be back in action Wednesday when it takes on Southern Indiana in Evansville, Ind., and then again on Thursday against Northern Kentucky in Covington, Ky.
The Lions -- provisional members of the NCAA Division II Heartland Conference -- jumped out to a 2-1 leader after taking wins at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles. But the Wildcats rebounded to reel off six straight wins in singles action to raly for the win.
"Fort Smith has a solid team, and to their credit they played well in doubles," ACU head coach Hutton Jones said. "Hopefully we learned that we've got to come out ready to play. We weren't quite ready (today), but we didn't panic and we played well to win all six singles matches."
The Wildcats won three split-sets singles matches, while Luke Hawk, Bryan Joiner and Jared Hope each won in straight sets for the Wildcats.
