
ACU Falls Twice at Durant

DURANT, OK – The #7 ranked Wildcats dropped consecutive games for the first time this season in a pair of one-run ballgames to Southeastern Oklahoma Friday afternoon at The Ballpark in Durant. Southeastern won a pitchers dual 1-0 in the first game as the Wildcats out hit the Savage Storm in the second game, but came up short 11-10.

ACU got a solid performance on the mound from Cameron Aspaas (3-1) who pitched a complete game scattering five hits on the afternoon and striking out seven. However Aspaas allowed one run after Casey Gibson reached on a single that squirted through the right side and would score after Riley Keith also singled through the right side giving the Savage Storm all they needed for a 1-0 victory.
The Wildcats only managed three hits two of which came from junior outfielder Aaron Oliver. Leftfielder Cameron Bankston who entered the weekend hitting .529 amassed the other hit for ACU.
Southeastern starter Jimmy Johnson (5-0) went 4.2 innings allowing three hits but held the Wildcats scoreless. Heath Wyatt pitched 2.1 perfect innings of relief with a strikeout to pick up his seventh save of the season.
Firstbasemen Bret Bochsler also saw his 14 game hitting streak come to an end after going 0-for-1 with a walk.
The second game was a complete reverse of the series opener as both teams combined for 27 hits as Southeastern slugged their way to an 11-10 win to take the first two games of the series.
ACU starter Zach Sneed was unable to get out of the second inning as he left with two outs after giving up eight hits and being accountable for seven runs. Josh Crockett (1-1) pitched 3.1 innings of relief as he allowed four hits and four runs and was charged with the loss.
The Wildcats got on the board in the top of the first after Aaron Oliver doubled and stole third for his eighth stolen base of the season in eight attempts. Travis Latz scored Oliver on his team leading 19 RBI of the season on a sacrifice fly to center.
Southeastern would regain the lead in the bottom of the third scoring three runs on four hits for a 7-5 lead. The Savage Storm also used a Wildcat error to start the inning when Willie Uechi committed only his third of the season.
ACU would add a pair of runs in the fourth and three more in the sixth, but Southeastern would answer in the bottom of each inning.
The middle of the order for the Wildcats had five players record multiple hits while four players recorded two RBIs or more in the loss. Will Calhoun was 3-for-5 with an RBI while Cameron Watten continued his to stay hot at the plate going 2-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Catcher Abe Williams connected for a two-run homer in the second for his first homerun of the year.
The Savage Storm used three pitchers as C.J. Stewart picked up his first win of the season while Wyatt entered the game in the seventh for a three inning save, his tenth of the season.
ACU and Southeastern Oklahoma will hook up for another doubleheader tomorrow afternoon as the Wildcats look for a split. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled again for 1 p.m. The Wildcats enter next week's spring break with a top 25 showdown with Delta State which fans can hear locally on KSLI 1280 AM.
