ACU moves to 2-0 with win over St. Mary’s

ABILENE – The Wildcats scored just 8 minutes into the game against visiting St. Mary's University on a goal from senior Jordan Reese Sunday afternoon.  Junior Lyndsey Womack provided the assist which gave the Wildcats the 1-0 lead and eventual final score.  The win moves the Wildcats to 2-0 on the young season.

The Wildcats nearly broke the game open as St. Mary's goalkeeper Mari Edwards slipped and allowed an open goal for Ashley Simon, but was blocked at the last second by a hustling Michal Ravitz keeping the ACU lead to one.

Defense was in full force for the Wildcats Sunday afternoon as they only allowed three shots in the first period and two in the second.  Only three of the Rattler shots were on goal.  Senior goalkeeper Crissy Lawson stood strong as she tallied the three saves for ACU.

Reese led the charge with four shots, as ACU recorded 18 shots as a team with nine coming on goal.  Julie Coppedge, Courtney Wilson, and Lexi Stirling followed behind with three shots respectively.

The Wildcats are back in action this Friday, September 8, against Southwest Baptist.  The game begins at 5 p.m. at the Wildcat Soccer Pitch.
