Biography
2009-10 (sophomore): In spring season helped ACU win LSC men’s title with a 5-0 triumph over Cameron. Campbell won point at No. 2 doubles with John Strahl. Campbell won at No. 1 singles in NCAA round of 16 match against Hawaii Pacific. ACU swept doubles (with Campbell and John Stahl taking No. 2) in its 5-4 upset, but Wildcats fell, 5-1, in quarterfinal match against Valdosta State in Altamonte Springs, Fla., to finish season 18-12. Spring records were 15-11 in singles (3-0 in LSC) and 15-14 in doubles (3-0 in LSC). He was 13-11 at No. 1 in singles. In doubles, he was 11-13 at No. 2 and 4-1 at No. 3. He was 6-8 with Brent Proctor and 6-4 with John Strahl.
2008-09 (freshman): In ACU’s 5-3 win over Cameron in the LSC title match in the spring season, Campbell won at No. 3 doubles with Juan Nunez. Also won a point in NCAA national tournament in round of 16 when ACU fell, 5-3, to Georgia College and State. Campbell won at No. 2 singles as Wildcats finished season 26-8.
High school: Campbell was the No. 1 player in Jamaica in the age group 12-18. He was a three-time Davis Cup representative for Jamaica. Also participated in the Pan American Games for his native country. Was the winner of the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) World Youth Cup Under-14 tournament. Also was the 16-and-under NEC Junior Davis Cup Champion. The MVP of the National High School tennis competition held in Jamaica for three straight years (2004-06). Personal: His father, Peter Campbell, was the No. 1-ranked junior and senior player for the Jamaican National team, while his uncle, Errol Campbell, was the Davis Cup captain.
