Miesse Continues Home Run Streak in Wildcats’ Loss to Vaqueros

ACU wraps up its home slate as it hosts Utah Valley in Abilene this weekend. Senior Weekend kicks off at 6 p.m. Friday. Saturday's matchup features a 3 p.m. first pitch and a pregame ceremony honoring the Wildcats' seniors. ACU's home finale is set for 12 p.m. Sunday as the team celebrates Mother's Day.
Miesse matched his season high with four runs batted in thanks to a three-run home run in the third inning. It's his third straight game with a round-tripper after going deep twice versus Sacramento State. Miesse spearheaded the Wildcats' five-run third inning and brought home another run in the seventh with a sacrifice fly. He has five home runs this season.
Diego Cardenas added a pair of hits to go with an RBI fielder's choice. He has five hits in his last two contests with his 16th multi-hit game of the year. Cardenas leads the Western Athletic Conference with 60 RBIs.
Sam Hardcastle rounded out the scoring with a pinch-hit solo homer in the ninth inning. It's his third long ball of the season and his first hit since March 22. Luke Baier kept the inning alive with a single up the middle for his first career hit.
Nick Arias extended his hitting streak to 10 games, while Grant Watkins extended his to eight with an RBI single in the third inning. Arias and JT Thompson reached base for the 18th straight matchup. Cardenas made it aboard in his 15th consecutive game. Zandt Payne scored two runs for his 16th multi-run performance.
Reliever Will Patterson breezed through the ninth inning, facing the minimum with just five pitches.
The Wildcats cut into the Vaqueros' 7-0 lead with a five-run third inning. Brady Gray and Ryan Jones walked before Payne was hit by a pitch, loading the bases with no outs. Cardenas put ACU on the board with an RBI fielder's choice ahead of Miesse's three-run blast with two outs. Thompson was nailed with a pitch and scored on Watkins' RBI base hit up the middle.
Payne led off the bottom of the seventh with a single and came around to score on Miesse's sacrifice fly.
