Over 1,100 Pack The Crutch as Wildcats Fall to Red Raiders

ABILENE - Abilene Christian baseball dropped a 9-1 decision to Texas Tech in front of 1,111 fans at Crutcher Scott Field at Bullock Brothers Ballpark on Wednesday night. ACU couldn't overcome the Red Raiders' five-run first inning as 25 Wildcats saw the field.
ACU returns to Western Athletic Conference play this weekend versus UT Arlington in Abilene. It has won its last six games versus the Mavericks and 10 of its last 13.
Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night begins at 6 p.m. Friday before Rally Cats Day presented by New Horizons at 3 p.m. Saturday. The series wraps up at 12 p.m. Sunday with Challengers Day and Bark in the Park.
Diego Cardenas drove in the Wildcats' lone run with an RBI single in the fifth inning. He leads the Western Athletic Conference with 52 runs batted in. Nick Arias singled twice, while Zandt Payne doubled in the fifth to reach base safely for the 34th consecutive game. Brady Ladusau, JT Thompson and Ryan Jones also got aboard via base hits.
Ten ACU pitchers appeared on the mound, with Logan Young and Carson Wallace hurling two scoreless frames apiece. Blaine Palmer struck out two batters in 0.2 innings, while Noah Galvan struck out the only batter he faced.
Following Texas Tech's five-run outburst to begin the game, ACU kept one of the nation's top offenses scoreless for the next five innings. The Red Raiders entered the day leading the country in hits and ranked second in batting average.
The Wildcats mounted their biggest threat in the fifth, when Payne came home on Cardenas' RBI single. Arias followed with a single.
