MCKINNEY, Texas - After runner-up finishes in the past two seasons, Abilene Christian women's golf looks to break through at the Western Athletic Conference Championship this week. The top-seeded Wildcats will tee off at The Hills Golf Course at Stonebridge Ranch from Monday to Wednesday as they aim to punch the program's first ticket to an NCAA Regional.
ACU will travel with a lineup of Ryann Honea, Maddi Kamas, Jiyu Han, Jasmine Do and Kate Pickrell. Pickrell will get the Wildcats started at 8 a.m. Monday.
No. 95 ACU is the highest-ranked team in the WAC, per Clippd, followed by No. 153 California Baptist, No. 154 Tarleton State, No. 166 UT Arlington, No. 189 Utah Tech, No. 195 Utah Valley and No. 254 Southern Utah.
The Wildcats placed second at the WAC Championship in the program's first two seasons. This is the third different course the tournament has been hosted at in the past three years after being staged in Payson, Ariz. in 2024 and in Litchfield Park, Ariz. last season.
In its last time out, ACU tied for eighth place at the "Mo" Morial Invitational in Bryan, Texas. Honea led the way in a draw for fifth place at 4-over 220.
The 95th-ranked Honea looks to continue her run of success at the conference championship and qualify for her third consecutive NCAA Regional. The senior captured the individual WAC title at the 2024 tournament and placed second last season.
Honea, the highest-ranked golfer in the conference, earned an automatic berth in the 2024 NCAA Bryan Regional while receiving an at-large bid to 2025's NCAA Lubbock Regional.
Honea is clicking at the right time and has displayed consistency all season long. She's placed in the top 10 in her last four events and has finished outside the top 12 just once this year. The San Angelo, Texas native has won two of the last four Jersey Mike's A Sub Above WAC Women's Golfer of the Week honors, doing so on March 26 and April 9.
Kamas is no stranger to success at conference championships. She captured the Sooner Athletic Conference individual title in each of her four seasons at Oklahoma City University and powered the Stars to four consecutive SAC championships. Kamas was named the Jersey Mike's A Sub Above WAC Women's Golfer of the Week on April 2 after tying for third at the Coach Mo Classic.
