Three Wildcats Land in Top Five as ACU Places Second at WAC Championship

MCKINNEY, Texas - Three Abilene Christian women's golfers landed within the top five as the Wildcats took second place at the Western Athletic Conference Championship on Wednesday. Maddi Kamas tied for second while Ryann Honea and Kate Pickrell each drew for fifth place at The Hills Golf Course at Stonebridge Ranch.
The Wildcats closed at 36-over 900 after scoring 17-over 305 in the final round. They've placed within the top two at the WAC Championship in each of the program's three seasons. An ACU golfer has also placed within the top two each year, including Honea's victory in 2024.
Kamas neared the fifth conference title of her career, scoring two strokes back of the champion at 3-over 219. Pickrell and Honea shot 7-over 223, with Pickrell rising four spots after firing a 1-over 73 on Wednesday.
Tarleton State secured the conference crown at 25-over 889, while the Texans' Louise Depadt earned the individual title at 1-over 217.
The 95th-ranked Honea and ACU's individuals now await potential at-large bids in an NCAA Regional, slated for May 11-13. At-large individuals will be unveiled during the NCAA Selection Show on Wednesday, April 29 at 3 p.m. on the Golf Channel.
ACU was the top-shooting team in the field on par 4s at 30-over while ranking third on par 5s at 2-under. The Wildcats' 30 birdies and 162 pars each ranked second, while their 68 bogeys were the second-fewest.
Kamas tallied a pair of birdies and just two bogeys in a 2-over 74 final round while scoring 1-under 35 on the front nine. She was the top golfer on par 4s at 2-under and tied for fourth with nine birdies. Kamas' 10 bogeys were the second-fewest in the tournament.
Pickrell finished strong with her best round since the PING ASU Invitational a month ago. She shot at or below par on 15 holes with three birdies. Pickrell placed third on par 4s at even par and tied for fourth with nine birdies. She joined Kamas with the second-fewest bogeys.
Honea placed within the top five at the WAC Championship for the third season in a row. She logged a 7-over 79 in the final round. Honea tied for fourth on par 3s at 2-over and drew for third on par 5s at 3-under. Her eight birdies tied for seventh.
Jiyu Han tied for 23rd at 20-over 236, while Jasmine Do followed in 26 place at 21-over 307. Both carded 7-over 79 on Wednesday.
