ACU Drops Pair in Norman, Heads to Utah Next

NORMAN, Okla. — The Abilene Christian softball team finished its time in the Okana Invitational with an 11-1 loss to Louisiana and a 9-0 defeat against the host No. 4/6 Oklahoma Sooners on Sunday.
Game 1: Louisiana 11, ACU 1
The Wildcats' lone run came from a long ball by Ari Maxwell in the third inning. The solo shot to left field was Maxwell's team-leading fifth of the season, and her fourth in the past six games. It marked a special moment because the sophomore outfielder is from Edmond, Okla., about 45 minutes north of Love's Field in Norman and had many friends and family members in the stands.
The Ragin' Cajuns launched four home runs off ACU resulting in nine of their 11 runs.
Junior transfer Makayla Valle got the ball in relief and pitched 3 1/3 innings, giving up three earned runs on six hits. Lindsey Oliver closed out the game with three innings pitched, allowing four earned runs on five hits.
Game 2: #4/6 Oklahoma 9, ACU 0 (5 innings)
The Sooners' pitching was on-point as ACU managed just two hits against one of the nation's best teams.
Oklahoma scored three runs in the first inning, two more in the second and four in the third.
Throughout the game, four ACU players reached base: freshmen Ciana Arguijo and Jadyn Dawson recorded singles, Emalee Romero on a fielding error by Oklahoma's third baseman, and Elizabeth Schaefer drew a walk. However, all four were abruptly taken down by the Sooners turning double plays on the subsequent batter each time.
Leah Meyer pitched 1 2/3 innings,, allowing five earned runs on four hits, followed by Ella Beeman with 1 1/3 innings, giving up four earned runs on four hits. Makayla Valle completed a scoreless 4th inning, allowing just one hit.
Shortstop Savannah Crocker, a freshman from Rockwall Heath High School, recorded a season-high total of four fielding assists against Oklahoma.

ACU continues its eight-game road trip with a Spring Break tour of the Salt Lake City area. The Wildcats will face BYU in Provo, Utah, on Tuesday at 5 p.m. CT, then take on the Utah Utes in a three-game series on Wednesday and Thursday.
ACU was originally scheduled to also play Weber State on Tuesday, but that game was cancelled last week.
