ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Abilene Christian women's golf returns to the Sunshine State to compete in the Coach Mo Classic at St. Johns Golf & Country Club on Monday and Tuesday. The Wildcats are back in action a week after Ryann Honea registered a runner-up finish at the PING ASU Invitational in Phoenix.
Teams will play two rounds Monday before concluding with the third round Tuesday at the par-72 course. Both days will begin with a 7:30 a.m. (CT) shotgun start. ACU will travel with a lineup of Honea, Maddi Kamas, Kate Pickrell, Jiyu Han and Jasmine Do.
The No. 104 Wildcats join a 16-team field featuring five power conference programs in No. 12 UCF, No. 16 Florida State, No. 51 Purdue, No. 53 Michigan and No. 55 Illinois.
No. 72 Furman and No. 98 North Florida host the event, also including No. 93 Chattanooga, No. 112 Augusta, No. 124 Florida International, No. 130 Georgia Southern, No. 177 Cal State Bakersfield and No. 185 St. Thomas. Second-ranked junior college program Daytona State and Division II's No. 11 Flagler round out the mix.
Honea notched her fourth top-five placement of the season at the PING ASU Invitational, placing one stroke back of the individual champion at 7-under 209. She landed within the top five for the 14th time in her career and was named the Jersey Mike's A Sub Above Women's Golfer of the Week by the Western Athletic Conference.
Honea was one of just four golfers in the field to shoot under par in each round. She powered the Wildcats in the final round to a two-spot rise to ninth place at 18-over 882 in a field featuring 10 top-100 programs. ACU placed five strokes ahead of reigning national champion Northwestern.
