LAKE CHARLES, La. — On Saturday afternoon, the Wildcats (15-12) won the second game of the series 7-6 against the McNeese State Cowboys (13-14) behind a strong pitching night from Aidan Coleman, Baron Mannis and Brady Coe.
Coleman started the game and threw four innings, giving up seven hits and five runs before giving way to Mannis who pitched three before Coe entered the game.
Coe pitched for the final two innings, faced six batters and struck out four to seal the game. The three combined for 11 strikeouts and only three walks, while tallying his third save of the season.
Just as in Friday's game, Grant Watkins sent a ball out of the park as part of a four-run third inning for the Wildcats, this time for his team-leading 15th of the season.
The Wildcats led 5-1 after the top of the fourth inning, but the Cowboys stormed back to tie the game at five runs apiece. However, in the top of the fifth, Gavin Brzozowski singled to left field, hitting in two runs to give the Wildcats the lead, which they would maintain the rest of the game.
The Wildcats and Cowboys will face off on Sunday at 12 p.m. for the final match of the series.
The last time ACU swept an opponent in a series was April 25-27, 2025, against Seattle University in Seattle.
On the other side, McNeese will look to avoid its second home sweep of the season as it lost three straight earlier this season when it hosted the University of Kansas on February 20-22.
