The Abilene Christian baseball continues its easterly road trip with a three-game series at McNeese starting Friday at Joe Miller Ballpark in Lake Charles, La.
The Wildcats (13-12) are coming off a 9-4 victory at Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches on Wednesday night. When it's all finished, this week's games combined with last week's series in Albuquerque against New Mexico will mean the team will have traveled nearly 2,000 miles round trip in 11 days. They'll throw in a short day trip to Lubbock to play Texas Tech next Tuesday before finally getting back on the turf at Crutcher Scott Field at Bullock Brothers Ballpark.
On Wednesday evening, Grant Watkins hit a grand slam to put him in a tie for the team lead in home runs with 13 this season. ACU's pitchers shut out Stephen F. Austin through seven innings before the Lumberjacks did all their damage in the eighth.
This weekend's series will be the first time the former Southland Conference foes have met since 2019. Left-handed pitcher Brett Lanman is expected to get the start on Friday night at 6 p.m.
Game two is Saturday at 2 p.m. and the series wraps up on Sunday at 1 p.m. McNeese is 13-12 this season with a signature win over No. 1 LSU on Feb. 24.
