
Honea Shines in Runner-Up Finish at PING ASU Invitational

PHOENIX - Ryann Honea recorded her fourth top-five placement of the season as she tied for second place at the PING ASU Invitational at Papago Golf Club on Wednesday. Honea scored 7-under 209, one stroke back of the individual champion, to land within the top five for the 14th time in her career.
Honea powered the Wildcats in the final round to a two-spot rise to ninth place at 18-over 882 in a field featuring 10 top-100 programs. The senior has finished within the top five at four of seven events this season. Honea shot 2-under 70 in the final round to raise two spots herself as ACU put together its top performance of the week at 3-over 291.
The Wildcats continue their run of three tournaments in as many weeks at the Coach Mo Classic, hosted by Furman at St. Johns Golf & Country Club in St. Augustine, Fla. on March 30-31.
Honea placed within the field's top 10 for scoring on par-3 and par-4 holes. She tied for second on par 3s at 2-under and drew for seventh on par 4s. Honea tied for fifth with 12 birdies and drew for the sixth-fewest bogeys with just five across three rounds. She shot 3-under on the back nine and collected four birdies in the final round.
No. 2 USC captured an 11-stroke victory at 23-under 841, with Cal State Fullerton's Davina Xanh jumping six spots on Wednesday to secure the individual title by one stroke at 8-under 208.
Four members of ACU's lineup improved their individual standings in the third round. Maddi Kamas followed Honea in a tie for 44th place at 7-over 223. She shot 5-over 77 to close out the tournament. Kamas led the Wildcats with 38 pars.
Kate Pickrell jumped 12 spots into a draw for 52nd after delivering her top round at 1-over 73, with three birdies matching her second-best round of the season. She finished second on the team with six birdies. Jiyu Han ascended seven spots into a tie for 52nd with a 2-over 74 on Wednesday. She matched Honea with 37 pars.
Jasmine Do rounded out the lineup also shooting 2-over 74 to wrap up the tournament. She rose 12 spots to tie for 75th at 18-over 234 and improved by seven strokes from the previous round. Do shot 1-under 35 on the front nine.
Julia Vollmer, competing as an individual, tied for 79th at 19-over 235. Her and Honea paced the Wildcats on par 5s at 2-under.
