CLEBURNE, Texas - Abilene Christian baseball didn't allow any runs over the final eight innings of its 3-0 loss to Texas State in the College Baseball Series at La Moderna Field on Sunday afternoon. Baron Mannis and Noah Galvan combined for five scoreless frames, allowing just two hits with five strikeouts out of the bullpen.
The Wildcats look to return to the win column at 6 p.m. Tuesday versus top-25 TCU in Fort Worth, Texas. It's the first of two midweek matchups for ACU, who hosts Stephen F. Austin at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Crutcher Scott Field at Bullock Brothers Ballpark.
The Bobcats got the game's scoring out of the way in the first inning with a three-run home run before it turned into a pitchers duel. Cade McGarrh struck out seven in three innings before Mannis, a freshman, delivered four strong frames in relief. He surrendered just one hit while striking out four. Galvan faced the minimum in the bottom of the eighth with a punchout.
Mannis lowered his ERA to 0.82 with an opposing batting average of .184 in his fourth collegiate appearance.
Maddox Miesse and Zandt Payne collected the only hits of the day for the Wildcats, with both coming in the eighth inning. Both drew walks, with Miesse reaching three times after being hit by a pitch. ACU loaded the bases in the fifth, but couldn't bring anyone home.
