Wildcats Sweep Weekend Opponents

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ABILENE, Texas — The ACU men's tennis team completed a successful home weekend with victories over Tyler Junior College (4-2), Trinity (4-1), and Lubbock Christian (5-1).

On Friday the Wildcats took down Tyler, the back-to-back NJCAA champions, and then defeated Trinity, which is ranked No. 14 in Division III. On Saturday evening, ACU beat Lubbock Christian, one of the most storied tennis programs in Division II.

In the match against Tyler, the Apaches secured the doubles point with a win at No. 2 and a walkover at No. 3 doubles. Alejandro Pardo and Enrico Franchi edged Merse Deli and Dennis Dutine 6-4 at No. 2 doubles, while Toby Eyrl Collins and Ouga Miyazaki won by default at No. 3 doubles. The No. 1 doubles match, featuring Ties de Regt and Daniel Marincas against Luis Jose Nakamine and Ethan Scribner, was left unfinished with the score at 6-5 in favor of Abilene Christian.

Abilene Christian responded strongly in singles, claiming four of the five completed matches. Nakamine secured a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Marincas at No. 1 singles. Dutine followed suit at No. 2 singles, defeating de Regt 6-1, 6-3. Deli added another point at No. 3 singles, overcoming Franchi in a ten-point tiebreaker, 6-4, 5-7, 10-8. Jorge Aza clinched the overall match for the Wildcats at No. 4 singles with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Luke Lopez Van Geel. The match at No. 5 singles was left unfinished, with Scribner leading 7-5, and Tyler Junior College picked up a point at No. 6 singles as Pardo won by default.

In the match against Trinity, the Wildcats also secured the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 2. Nakamine and Scribner earned a 6-3 win over Kishan Kersten and Jared Perry at No. 1 doubles, while Aza and Deli clinched with a 6-4 victory against Ethan Flores and Roshin Kamath at No. 2 doubles. The match at No. 3 doubles was left unfinished.

In singles, the Wildcats extended their lead as Dennis Dutine claimed a 7-6(7), 6-3 win over #16 Kishan Kersten at No. 2 singles. Aza contributed another point with a straight-sets triumph, 6-3, 7-5, over #17 Aashish Dhanani at No. 3 singles. Nakamine sealed the victory for the Wildcats at No. 1 singles, overcoming #20 Jared Perry in a three-set battle, 6-0, 4-6, 6-3. The match at No. 6 singles saw Ivan Nikolovski of Trinity take a 1-0 lead before it was left unfinished. Matches at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, featuring Deli against Conor Kaczmarczyk and Scribner against Roshin Kamath, respectively, were also left unfinished with scores tied at 2-2 in both.

On Saturday against LCU, the Wildcats swept the doubles portion with wins by Nakamine / Scribner and Deli / Aza. In singles, Nakamine, Scribner and Dutine each earned straight-set victories. Aza provided the winning point by rallying to win in three sets 5-7, 7-6(3), 7-6(3).
