2/2/2026 6:31:00 PM | Women's Basketball
ABILENE - Abilene Christian women's basketball continues its gauntlet of 10 games in a five-day span with a trio of matchups at Moody Coliseum this week. The Wildcats host Tarleton State at 6 p.m. Tuesday before taking on Utah Valley at 6 p.m. Thursday. ACU wraps up the homestand versus California Baptist at 1 p.m. Saturday.
The Wildcats' meeting with the Texans was initially slated for Jan. 24 before being rescheduled twice due to inclement winter weather.
Thursday's matchup with the Wolverines is ACU's Worship on the Court game. The Wildcats will don specialty pink jerseys versus the Lancers for Hoops for a Hope, presented by Hendrick Health, while recognizing the program's former players as part of the Legends of Moody celebration. Saturday's halftime will feature the Wildcat Diaper Derby baby race, presented by Hendrick Health.
ACU aims to return to the win column after splitting a pair of games in Utah last week. The Wildcats delivered one of their top defensive efforts of the season in a 54-46 win over Utah Tech on Jan. 29. They followed with their second conference loss of the year, dropping a 71-68 decision to Southern Utah on Jan. 31 despite marching back from a double-digit halftime deficit.
Natalia Chavez scored 12 points against the Trailblazers, while Payton Hull and Erin Woodson registered 11 points apiece and totaled 13 rebounds. Hull tallied 21 points versus the Thunderbirds, while Emma Troxell notched her third double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Woodson and Chavez combined for 29 points.
The Wildcats have one of the conference's top home-court advantages behind them, touting a perfect 10-0 record at Moody Coliseum this season. ACU has won its last 16 home games, dating back to last season, and is chasing the program's Division I-long home winning streak of 21 games across the 2014-15 and 2016-17 campaigns.
ACU has won its last four games at Moody Coliseum versus Tarleton State, dating back to 2022-23. The Wildcats are 6-4 against the Texans in their Division I era. ACU is 3-1 at home versus Utah Valley compared to a 1-2 mark against California Baptist.
The Wildcats have played their best during the work week with a 9-0 showing when playing from Monday to Thursday this season. They're 6-6 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
ACU's tenacious defense has turned into one of the nation's best in allowing just 57.8 points per game, ranking 40th. The Wildcats' 71-point allowance at Southern Utah marked just the third instance they have surrendered 70 or more points in a game this year and for the first time since Nov. 29, 2025. ACU has held its opponents to 60 points or less in each of its wins this season.
The Wildcats rank in the top 20 nationally for steals (12.0) and turnovers forced (22.5) per game, plus turnover margin (+7.7).
Woodson has upped her game in Western Athletic Conference action, ranking second in the league with 15.6 points per game at a .444 clip to rank fourth. Her .893 free throw percentage is tops in the WAC, having sunk 25 of 28 free throw tries. Woodson has scored 10 points or more in all but one game this season, including 11 straight.
Since entering the lineup on Jan. 10, Chavez has scored in the double figures in each of her five games in the lineup. She is 10th in the conference with 11.9 points per game in WAC matchups while ranking sixth with 1.9 three-pointers made per contest.
