Gray, Payne Homer as Wildcats Fall to Patriots in Dallas

DALLAS - Abilene Christian baseball dropped a 12-3 decision to Dallas Baptist in midweek action at Horner Ballpark on Tuesday night. Brady Gray and Zandt Payne supplied each of the Wildcats' five hits and both hit home runs.
ACU returns to Crutcher Scott Field at Bullock Brothers Ballpark for a three-game series versus Oral Roberts this weekend. The Wildcats kick off their Camper Weekend at 3 p.m. Friday.
Gray got on board four times with a 3-for-3 night at the plate while being hit by a pitch. The Farmersville, Texas native's trio of hits are a career high as he notched the second home run of his career. Payne went 2 for 4 and put ACU on the board first with a solo shot in the opening frame. He's batting .316 through five games this season.
The Patriots scored in each of the first four innings, but Gray got the Wildcats back into it with a two-run homer in the sixth that plated Payne. He raised his average at the plate to .385.
Freshman Carson Wallace was the most effective ACU pitcher, notching a 1-2-3 seventh inning with a pair of strikeouts in his second appearance of the year.
