Cardenas Goes Deep in Wildcats’ Loss to Golden Eagles

ABILENE - Diego Cardenas belted his second home run of the season as Abilene Christian baseball dropped a 9-2 ballgame to Oral Roberts at Crutcher Scott Field at Bullock Brothers Ballpark on Friday.
The Wildcats will look to even the series with the Golden Eagles and continue Campers Weekend at 1 p.m. Saturday at home. Aidan Coleman is slated to start on the mound for ACU opposite Oral Roberts' Nathan Love.
Five Wildcats registered hits, with Sam Hardcastle supplying a pinch-hit RBI single in the eighth inning. He plated Ryan Jones, who entered as a defensive substitution and opened the frame with a double, his first hit of the season. JT Thompson and Brady Ladusau also added hits, with the freshman Ladusau raising his batting average to .455.
Cardenas got ACU on the board in the fourth inning, sending an 0-1 offering into the right-field bullpen to cut a two-run deficit in half at 2-1. Oral Roberts scored seven runs over the next three innings to bolster its lead before Hardcastle came through in the eighth. It was the second of the Wildcats' two pinch hits.
Cardenas picked up his team-high sixth run batted in of the season.
Will Patterson from Tyler Junior College went the final 2.1 innings in relief, allowing just one hit and a walk with two strikeouts. Starter Brett Lanman punched out five batters in three innings.
