Wildcats Pounce on Cardinals, 13-5

ABILENE - In a stunning comeback, the Wildcats overcame Incarnate Word in a late offensive surge against Incarnate Word at Bullock Brothers Ballpark tonight.

The game began with the Cardinals taking an early lead, scoring five runs in the top of the first inning. However, ACU responded with one run in the bottom of the first from Zandt Payne, with a no-doubt homer to right field.

Abilene Christian gradually closed the gap, adding 2 runs in the fourth inning, from Ben Greer taking advantage of a throwing error, and Diego Cardenas flying out to score Nick Arias

The Wildcats were able to tie the score in the fifth, with Payne grounding out to second base to send Reese Borho home.

The go-ahead run came from Cardenas in the sixth, with a sacrifice fly giving the go-ahead to Greer. Incarnate Word was unable to keep up with ACU's offensive momentum.

Key offensive players for the Wildcats included Payne, who hit a home run and contributed two RBIs, Cardenas, who tallied an impressive five RBIs, and Greer, who also made significant contributions with two RBIs.

ACU went from the fourth to the eighth inning scoring at least one run.

The game was marked by strong pitching performances from Abilene Christian's Iain Campa who earned the win.

ACU demonstrated resilience and determination, overcoming an early deficit to achieve a decisive victory. The Wildcats will head to Arlington to take on UT Arlington this weekend. The series will be starting on Thursday and will end on Saturday, due to Easter Sunday being upon us. The first pitch on Thursday will be at 6:00 p.m. CT.
