ACU Men's Tennis Joins Atlantic Sun Conference

The Abilene Christian men's tennis team has joined the Atlantic Sun Conference as an affiliate member beginning with the 2026 spring team season.

ACU and fellow Western Athletic Conference member school UT Arlington will participate as affiliates in the ASUN for the sport of men's tennis, as announced by the conference Thursday afternoon.

"We're thrilled to have ACU Men's Tennis join the ASUN beginning in spring 2026," said ACU vice president for athletics Zack Lassiter. "The ASUN's competitive depth and commitment to elevating student-athlete experiences align perfectly with our vision for the future of Wildcat tennis. This move positions our program to grow, compete at the highest level, and continue representing Abilene Christian University with excellence on and off the court."

The Wildcats and Mavericks join Austin Peay, Bellarmine, Eastern Kentucky, Florida Gulf Coast, Lipscomb, North Alabama, North Florida, Queens and Stetson to comprise the 11 teams competing for the ASUN title. The 2026 ASUN Men's Tennis Championship takes place in April and is hosted by FGCU in Fort Myers, Fla.

ACU and UTA have combined to win the past four WAC Tournament titles with the Wildcats winning in 2022 and 2025, and the Mavs winning in 2023 and 2024.

ACU head coach Juan Nunez was hired in June 2020, and is a two-time WAC Coach of the Year. He has coached two WAC Player of the Year winners, two WAC Freshman of the Year winners, and 23 all-conference players.

"I am thrilled to welcome the Mavericks and Wildcats' Men's Tennis programs, coaches and student-athletes to the Atlantic Sun Conference," said ASUN commissioner Jeff Bacon. "ASUN Men's Tennis has long been a strength of the Conference and the additions of two championship caliber programs in Abilene Christian and UT Arlington will only enhance that collective strength."
