ST. GEORGE, Utah - Abilene Christian soccer allowed two first-half goals to Utah Tech and couldn't answer back in a 2-0 loss to the Trailblazers at Greater Zion Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Wildcats were limited to six shots, none of which were on goal.
ACU closes out the regular season with three consecutive home matches, beginning with a rivalry bout with Tarleton State at 7 p.m. Saturday. The Wildcats will host Greek Night and Pink Out the Pitch at Elmer Gray Stadium.
"It's been a challenging stretch with two road results that don't reflect who we are or the standards we've set," head coach Stephen Salas said. "We need to take an honest look at ourselves, address what's affecting our unity and get back to what defines us as a team heading into the final three regular season games as we push toward the conference tournament. We control our own destiny and have the opportunity to show who we truly are at Elmer Gray."
Freshman goalkeeper Bella Medrano faced 22 shots from Utah Tech's attack, with 10 on target. She logged seven saves, four of which came in the second half. The Wildcats tallied five shots in the first half before the Trailblazers' defense stiffened to allow just one in the final 45 minutes.
On the flip side, Utah Tech stepped up its attack with 13 shots in the second half after recording nine before the break. ACU took two corner kicks compared to eight by the Trailblazers. Amelia Leggett led the Wildcats with two shots. Defenders McCarly Holloman and Gracie Kelly played the entire 90 minutes, while Baylie Simon played for 88.
It didn't take long for Utah Tech to find the back of the net, as Jocelyn Wright put the Trailblazers on the board in the third minute with an assist by Kyah Le. The home team bolstered its lead in the 30th minute when Abby Olsen netted a goal behind Lataya Brost's assist.
