
Wildcats Finish Second at Vaqueros Invite

McALLEN – Abilene Christian produced its best round of the Vaqueros Invitational on Tuesday and held on to second place.
The Wildcats shot 285 in the final round to finish at 862 – nine strokes behind Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
"It was a lot better today, but we just didn't have enough to make our move into the lead," said ACU Head Coach Rob Bennett. "Still, lots of positives with three players under par and Delaney and Sydney both finishing in the top five. We are right on the doorstep of getting a win, so don't be shocked if you see us at the top of the board in Houston."
Delaney Martin shot 69 on Tuesday to finish fourth with a two-under-par 211. She had rounds of 71-71-69 and finished with a tournament-leading 13 birdies. On Tuesday, Martin birdied holes 9, 10, 13 and 14.
Sydney Williams also was under par in the final round, shooting a one-under 70, and finished in a fifth-place tie at 213. Williams had birdies on holes 1, 3, 4, 11 and 13. Her score by rounds was 71-72-70.
Kate Pickrell, who finished with seven birdies for the tournament, finished tied for 21st at 222 after a third-round 75. She went 73-74-75 for the tournament.
Manon Guille had her best round on Tuesday at 71 after a 79 and a 73 on Monday. She eagled the par-5 third hole, covering the 475 yards in three strokes. Guille also birdied whole 4 and 10 on Tuesday to finish the tourney with three birdies.
Ryann Honea finished 27th at 225 with rounds of 72, 78 and 77. She brought her tournament total to three birdies by getting one on the seventh hole on Tuesday.
Competing as an individual Jiyu Han finished 10th with a 214 after her round of 69 on Tuesday. She went 70-75-69 for the tournament. Among her nine birdies for the tournament were four on Friday on holes 2, 5, 12 and 16.
