Honea Scores 2-Under, Rises 11 Spots in Second Round at NCAA Waco Regional

WACO, Texas - Abilene Christian women's golf's Ryann Honea rose 11 spots on the leaderboard to tie for 18th place through two rounds at the NCAA Waco Regional on Tuesday. Honea scored 2-under 68 in the second round at Ridgewood Country Club to improve to 1-over 141 as the top individual competitor in the field.
The regional will close with Wednesday's third round, with Honea teeing off from hole No. 1 at 9:40 a.m. After three rounds, the top five teams and the low individual not on an advancing team will move on to the national championships.
The 106th-ranked Honea showed a five-stroke improvement from her first round behind five birdies. She shot 2-under 33 on the front nine, scoring below par on three of her final four holes. Honea added a couple more birdies in an even-par 35 back nine.
Honea is tied for third on par 3s at 2-under and is drawn for eighth on par 5s at 1-under. She has six total birdies.
SMU held onto first place at 14-under 456, followed by Texas A&M, LSU and Oregon. Baylor and Tulsa are tied for fifth above the cut. The Mustangs' Kirra St-Laurent, the Tigers' Francesca Fiorellini and the Aggies' Vanessa Borvilos are each tied at the top at 5-under 135.
