Cats Capture Series with 7-3 Win

ABILENE – Abilene Christian claimed the series and the final game on Sunday with a 7-3 victory over Texas-Arlington.
The Wildcats produced 16 hits and the ACU pitching staff held the Mavericks to four hits on the day – one less than Gino D'Alessio, who went five for five with a home run and a double.
UTA went ahead 2-0 in the top of the first inning but the Wildcats tied it in the second with an RBI ground out by Benjamin Greer and an RBI single by Zandt Payne.
D'Alessio gave the Cats the lead for good with a solo home run to launch a four-run fifth inning. Ranse Radtke added a two-run homer and Greer doubled in a run for the 6-2 lead.
After UTA scored once in the seventh, ACU ended the scoring in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Garrett Williams.
Along with D'Alessio's five hits, ACU got three from Jack Nielsen and two each from DJ Van Atten, Radtke and Greer. Payne and Miller Ladusau added a single each.
Brett Lanman got the win as the starting pitcher, fanning 10 in 6.1 innings. Brett Garcia finished off the seventh and Blaine Palmer and Cade McGarrh each added a scoreless inning to preserve the win.
The Cats move to 4-2 in the Western Athletic Conference and 13-8 overall. ACU gets back on the road for four games, beginning with a Tuesday contest at Texas Tech and a three-game WAC set at Sacramento State.
