LUBBOCK – Abilene Christian shot a third-round 296 and finished fourth at Texas Tech's Red Raider Invitational at the Rawls Course on Tuesday.
"This week was a good learning experience for us," said ACU Head Coach Rob Bennett. "We played against some strong teams at a tough golf course and we did a lot of things really well. We showed that we belong at the top of any leaderboard and that our games can handle any type of golf course."
Delaney Martin finished in a tie for third place after shooting two-under for the final round. Her 70 brought her to 212 for the tournament and four under par. For the tournament, Martin led the entire field with a 3.83 average on par 4s.
"Delaney Martin was a rock star this week finishing tied for third as she led our team," Bennett said. "She was steady and confident and I think that rubs off on the rest of the team.
All that being said, we also know that we have a few things that we need to work on. We had a chance to move up to second place in the final round after a hot start, but we gave too many strokes back with unforced errors late in the round."
Ryann Honea was 12th after shooting 75 on Tuesday. She finished three-over for the tournament after a pair of even-par rounds on Monday. She finished at 219.
Sydney Williams (75 on Tuesday) and Manon Guille (76) finished in a tie for 35th at 229. Jiyu Han was 39th at 231 with rounds of 78-75-78.
Golfing as an individual, Kate Pickrell shot a 78 on Tuesday to bring her total to a 44th-place 233.
Martin had birdies Tuesday on holes 4, 7, 8 and 11. She finished out the tournament with 13 birdies.
Honea finished with 11 birdies in the tournament after owning holes 3, 9, 10 and 12 on Tuesday.
Williams had final-round birdies on holes 1 and 3 to finish with five for the tournament
Han had nine birdies for the tournament with four coming on holes 2, 9, 17 and 18 on Tuesday.
Guille had birdies on holes 2, 5 and 9 on Tuesday to bring her tournament total to six.
"All in all, I am proud of our team for continuing to represent ACU well. They are tough and determined and I believe we will continue to show the country that we are the real deal," said Bennett.
The Wildcats return to action Oct. 9-10 at Tulsa's Dale McNamara Invitational.
