ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Abilene Christian just missed winning its second tournament in its inaugural fall season on Tuesday, falling to Lipscomb on a playoff hole at North Carolina-Asheville's French Broad Intercollegiate.
After both teams finished at 904, ACU and Lipscomb went to the first hole for the playoff. Lipscomb's five golfers accounted for four pars and a bogey while ACU had pars from
Jiyu Han and
Manon Guille but lost the hole by three strokes.
All five ACU golfers had parred the hole in the third round on Tuesday
Ryann Honea led the ACU contingent in sixth place at 224 after a round of 78 on Tuesday. Honea had a birdie on the 11
th hole on Tuesday.
"Bittersweet day today," said ACU Head Coach
Rob Bennett. "I'm proud of our team for battling through tough conditions and putting ourselves in a position to win in a team playoff. Unfortunately, it didn't go our way, but we are going to be able to take this experience into the spring and I know we will be ready if we are in this position again."
Delaney Martin shot a final-round 75 with birdies on holes eight and 17 to finish ninth at 225.
Sydney Williams, Han and Guille all shot 77 on Tuesday. Guille finished 13
th at 228 with a birdie on the fourth hole. Williams was 16
th at 230. Han, who had 77 in each round, birdied the 17
th hole on Tuesday and finished 19
th at 231.
The tournament wraps up the fall season for the Wildcats. The spring season opens Feb. 5 at the Texas State Invitational.
"Overall I'm very proud of our team for how we competed in our first semester of competition and I'm looking forward to a very successful spring," said Bennett.
