NEW BRAUNFELS – Abilene Christian finished second in its first-ever spring women's golf tournament at the Texas State Invitational on Tuesday.
Delaney Martin led the charge for AC in a third-place tie with a 218 after a final round of 75.
"We accomplished our goal this week of a top-three finish, but in many ways, we didn't play to the ACU standard," said ACU Head Coach Rob Bennett. "Regardless, I'm proud of our team continuing to fight despite our struggles. Delaney looked good on her way to a tie for third place. She stayed steady and was a calming figure on the course for us this week. Many things to be proud of and some things to work on before we leave for Phoenix."
Martin had one birdie in the final round and led the Wildcats with nine for the tournament. She had rounds of 69, 74 and 75.
Kate Pickrell was 13th at 226 with rounds of 74, 74 and 78. Pickrell had four birdies for the tournament.
Manon Guille and Jiyu Han tied for 38th at 235. Guille had a final round of 77, matching her first round, and had one of her three birdies on Tuesday. Han had a final round of 81 and finished the tournament with two birdies.
Ryann Honea was 43rd after a round of 78 on Tuesday, after shooting two rounds of 79 on Monday. Honea had a birdie in the final round.
Golfing as an individual entry, Sydney Williams finished at 19th with her best round of the week – a 73. She finished at 229 and four birdies.
ACU returns to action on Tuesday in Phoenix at the Bowling Green Women's Intercollegiate.
