ABILENE – Delaney Martin was co-champion and Abilene Christian placed fifth in the BGSU Women's Intercollegiate after a final round of 306 on Tuesday.
Martin had a final round of 74 to finish in a first-place tie with Zoe Newell of Idaho at five-over 218. Martin had rounds of 71, 73 and 74. She birdied holes seven and 10 on Tuesday.
Ryann Honea finished in a tie for 27th after her round of 77 on Tuesday put her at 21 over for the tournament. Honea birdied the 14th hole on Tuesday.
Jiyu Han was 31st at 22 over following her round of 80 on Tuesday, in which she birdied the 18th hole. Sydney Williams shot a 75 in the final round, including birdies on 14 and 17 to finish tied for 36th at 23 over. Kate Pickrell was +27 for 43rd place. Pickrell had birdies on holes three and 18.
"I am so excited for Delaney," said ACU Head Coach Rob Bennett. "She has been so close multiple times, so to finally see her get the win is really special. She played some great golf this week and made some really clutch putts coming in; she definitely earned this one. Our team had the best round of the day until the final few holes, so I think we showed a lot of resolve bouncing back. We didn't accomplish our goal of a top-three finish, but I think we will have another chance at it in McAllen.
For the tournament, Martin led ACU with eight birdies, followed by Williams with seven, Han with five, Pickrell with four and Honea with two.
The Wildcats return to action March 4-5 at the Vaqueros Invitational in McAllen.
