‘Cats take down nationally-ranked Apaches

ABILENE, Texas – The ACU men's tennis team played host to second-ranked Tyler Junior College on Saturday afternoon, picking up a 5-2 win over the Apaches at home. The Wildcats have now won four of their last five matches dating back to March 18 and look to continue the momentum on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
  • All three ACU doubles tandems defeated their counterparts, giving the Wildcats the point and the momentum heading into singles action. 
  • Cesar Barranquero picked up a 6-3, 6-1 victory in the fourth flight to make it a 2-0 edge, and Tyler Stewart followed with a 6-2, 6-2 victory on Court 2 to put the Wildcats on the brink of a clinch.
  • The Apaches got on the board with a win in the fifth flight, but Benjamin McDonald closed out the win for the Purple and White, producing a 7-5, 6-1 victory on Court 6 and the clinching fourth point. 
  • Daniel Morozov won a three-set marathon in the top flight before Tyler Stewart wrapped up the afternoon with a 6-2, 6-2 win on Court 2.  
 
UP NEXT: 
  • The Wildcats welcome Trinity to Eager Tennis Pavilion on Sunday, with doubles action set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
