Demons drop Wildcat baseball in series finale

NATCHITOCHES, La. - Wildcat baseball (7-7, 1-2 Southland) couldn't have asked for a better start in its quest for a series win Sunday at Northwestern State (11-4, 2-1 SLC).
PING! ZOOM! Cameron Cromer singles through the left side and steals second base.
THWIP! Tommy Cruz plates Cromer on a hit up the middle.
CLUB! Colton Eager doubles to the left-center gap.
WHOOP! Eric Wimpee with an RBI and the Wildcats lead 2-0.Mitchell Dickson flies one to deep right field foul territory to make it 3-0 in the first inning.
Then came the Demons' counterpunch, which was stretched out over 8.5 innings. NSU pitching recovered in allowing just one more Wildcat hit and eight stranded baserunners, while its offense tied the score with three in the first and added five more in the third and fourth, leading to an 8-3 victory.
NSU's first three runs came on four hits, but in the third, the home team was assisted by four Wildcat errors that made it a 6-3 contest. The Demons' last two runs came around via RBI double and wild pitch.
The Wildcats, however, did hold NSU scoreless over the final 5.1 innings with Ben Johnson, Austin Ruesch and Colby Adkins combining for four K and five baserunners.
ACU concludes its road trip Wednesday at Texas (6:35 p.m. first pitch), which will be the first-ever meeting between the Wildcat Nine and six-time NCAA Champions. The Wildcats will be back home Friday to start a three-game series vs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
