Baseball welcomes Arkansas-Pine Bluff for weekend series

ABILENE – Abilene Christian baseball begins an eight-game homestand Friday at 6:30 p.m. with the first of three games vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The Golden Lions and Wildcats each own an early-season record of 1-3.

ACU Wednesday night lost a 12-4 decision at nationally ranked TCU, while down the road in Arlington, the Golden Lions dropped a 10-2 decision to the Mavericks of UTA. UAPB also has lost this spring to Alabama State and Alcorn State, but defeated Florida A&M in 7.0 innings, 11-1.
Robert Salazar hit his team-leading second home run of the season in the second inning of last night's game, but the Horned Frogs came right back with five unearned runs in its half of the inning. And after ACU scored a pair of runs in the fourth to cut TCU's lead down to 5-3, the home team again countered with seven straight runs from the fourth through seventh innings.
Both the Wildcats and Horned Frogs were affected by a combined five fielding errors, resulting in 12 unearned runs.
Offensively, ACU drew nine walks and collected four base hits at TCU including a RBI double from pitcher / designated hitter Kenny Otero during its two-run fourth inning. Otero scored two runs and pitched 1.2 innings, while second baseman Dalton Dunn reached base three time on a single and two walks.
The Golden Lions are hitting .270 through four games led by Austin Krzeminski (.417, 5-12, 4 runs) and Larry Sims (.417, 5-12, 4 runs). Their pitching staff owns a 9.60 ERA with 20 strikeouts through 30.0 innings of work.
