MTEN beats up neighboring teams from HSU and McM

ABILENE – Abilene Christian men's tennis warmed up for its upcoming trip to New Orleans Wednesday with a pair of 7-0 victories over neighboring schools McMurry and Hardin-Simmons. The Wildcats improved to 12-8 (2-0 Southland) following its doubleheader sweep, and will face both Xavier (Fri.) and New Orleans (Sat.) in the Big Easy as they look to remain unbeaten in Southland Conference play.

ACU utilized all 10 of its players between singles and doubles – some in exhibitions in the No. 7 and 8 spots – and still came away with 16 straight-set victories plus two clean sweeps of doubles.

Junior Cole Lawson won each of his matches at No. 6, while several of his teammates were twice victorious at different positions. Senior Henry Adams won his contests at No. 2 and 3, and his classmates Paul Michael Domanski and Hunter Holman combined for four wins between the No. 3 and 5 spots.

Newcomer Niko Moceanu scored his first win of the season at No. 2 vs. McMurry and improved to 2-0 at No. 4 against the Cowboys, while the Sheehy brothers split time at No. 1 to remain tied for the team lead in victories with 12. Josh beat HSU's Alex Hunt, 6-1, 6-1, and Jonathan topped Carlos Martinez of McMurry, 6-1, 6-4.

ACU put together two new doubles pairings during today's doubleheader. Jon Sheehy and Moceanu won their debut at No. 1 vs. HSU, 6-3, and at the No. 3 line, Lawson and Jackson Fine topped McMurry's Diaz and Miller, 6-0.

Adams and Brad Gleason won both of their matches to improve to 6-4 overall this spring. Josh Sheehy and Domanski improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 at No. 1 with their win vs. McMurry, and the tandem of Holman and Lawson remained undefeated at 3-0 following their No. 3 win vs. the Cowboys.
