ABILENE – The ACU Wildcats return to the comfortable confines of Moody Coliseum Sunday afternoon when they host Southeastern Louisiana in a Southland Conference contest that will be broadcast nationally on ESPN3.
Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. with the ACU women's game against Southeastern Louisiana set for tipoff at either 3:30 p.m. or 30 minutes after the end of the men's game, whichever comes first. Both games will be broadcast on the internet with David Saltzman (play-by-play) and Jim Haller (color commentary) delivering the broadcast.
The ACU men are 8-2 at home this season, including 4-0 in Southland Conference games with wins over Northwestern State, McNeese State, Houston Baptist and Lamar. ACU lost its last game in Abilene – an 84-71 decision against Sam Houston State – although the game was played at Hardin-Simmons University's Mabee Complex because ACU's annual Sing Song knocked the Wildcats out of Moody Coliseum for the week.
The Wildcats have lost back-to-back games entering Sunday's contest after the loss to the Bearkats and Thursday night's 73-71 road loss at Houston Baptist. ACU trailed by as many as 10 points in the second half before tying the game at 63-63 with about four minutes to play.
But Anthony Odunsi hit 8 of 8 free throws in the final two minutes to help the Huskies hold off the Wildcats. Freshman guard Jaylen Franklin – who didn't start the game because he missed four days early in the week (including the Sam Houston State game) because of the flu virus – came off the bench to score 15 points on 6 of 11 shooting to lead the Wildcats.
Franklin continues to lead the team in scoring at 15.9 ppg, while freshman forward Jaren Lewis is averaging 9.8 ppg and senior guard Parker Wentz is third at 8.9 ppg.
Senior point guard Jalen Little continued his hot offensive play with 13 points against the Huskies, hitting 3 of 3 from 3-point range to give him double figures in points for the fourth time in the Wildcats' last five games.
