8/21/2015 11:33:00 PM | Women's Soccer
TUCSON, Ariz. – The Arizona Wildcats scored three times in the second half Friday night as they rolled past ACU, 4-0, the season-opening women's soccer match for both teams at Mulcahy Stadium.
ACU (0-1) will be back in action Sunday at 2 p.m. (CT) when it takes on Texas-El Paso at University Field in El Paso.
ACU trailed Arizona 1-0 at halftime, but saw sophomore midfielder Gabi Stoian take over the match in the final 45 minutes. Stoian, who had the assist on Arizona's first-half goal, scored in the 53rd minute of the match to make it 2-0. Stoian – who last year scored 13 goals as a freshman – scored 10 minutes later, pushing one past ACU goalkeeper Kelsey Dombrowski from 15 yards out to make it 3-0.
Arizona's Hayley Estopare scored the final goal of the match in the 75th minute as she headed in a throw-in from Jessica Nelson to make it 4-0.
ACU managed just two shots (none on goal), while Arizona had 11 shots, including 10 shots on goal. Junior Maria Gomez and sophomore Chantal Kinsey had the only two shots for ACU.
