ABILENE - Abilene Christian softball begins the home portion of its 2015 slate Friday with a 2 p.m. doubleheader against the Panthers of Prairie View A&M.
Live stats are available for both games, which will be the only ones this month at Poly Wells Field. Friday's forecast calls for sunny skies and a high temperature of 71 degrees.
The Wildcats (1-4) are coming off a tough weekend at the Lady Techster Invitational, during which they lost a pair of close games to Missouri State, 4-3, and host Louisiana Tech, 3-0, before stomping Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 14-7, behind a nine-run first inning.
ACU hit .248 though the five games in Ruston, La., led by freshman shortstop Peyton Hedrick who batted .412 (7-for-17) with a home run, double, walk and three RBI. Freshman third baseman Holly Neese also cracked a three-run homer for the Wildcats in their loss to the Bears.
Newcomer Kaleigh Singleton - a transfer from Central Florida - started four games and counted four doubles among her five hits, and in limited action, freshman Holly Vanckhoven drove in four RBI on as many hits though seven at-bats.
Senior pitcher Emily Seidel went 0-2, but posted a respectable earned-run average of 3.85 through four appearances and 20.0 innings pitched. Additionally, her 15 strikeouts ranked first in the Southland Conference following the first weekend of play.
Junior transfer Julia Montoya earned the win for the Wildcats vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff, and punched out four batters in 12.1 innings of work.
The Panthers have yet to play a game this spring. They went 13-28 overall in 2014, which included a 7-10 mark vs. the SWAC and 7-16 record away from Prairie View.
ACU won three of four games vs. Prairie View A&M on the road last season. The Wildcats won game one in 6.0 innings, 10-0, lost game two, 9-6, and captured the next two in convincing fashion by scores of 13-4 and 11-3.
