Wildcats back on the road to take on Sam Houston State in Southland play

HUNTSVILLE – The ACU Wildcats will hit the road again this weekend as they renew their series against Sam Houston State in a three-game Southland Conference set at Don Sanders Stadium.
The first game Friday will get started at 6:30 p.m., followed by a 4 p.m. game Saturday and a 1 p.m. Sunday contest. The Bearkats (22-11, 6-6 SLC) and Wildcats (12-17, 2-4 SLC) met every year from 1973 to 1979 with the Kats holding a 24-6 advantage all-time. The two teams will meet regularly once again as ACU is one of four new schools to have joined the Southland Conference this year.
The Wildcats have hit their worst patch of the season as they carry a four-game losing streak into the series that includes a 16-7 loss to Lamar last Sunday in Abilene and a 19-2 loss at Texas Tech on Tuesday. The Cardinals of Lamar swept the Wildcats last weekend, and a similar fate this weekend at Sam Houston would stretch ACU's losing streak to seven games, which would tie the longest of head coach Britt Bonneau's 18 seasons with the Wildcats.
ACU will send Nate Cole (1-5, 7.31 ERA) to the mound Friday, followed by Brady Rodriguez (0-2, 5.32 ERA) on Saturday and Garrett Demeyere (3-3, 4.59 ERA) on Sunday. The Wildcats are last in the league win team ERA (5.79) and team fielding (.951) and have committed the fourth-most errors in the league (53).
However, the Wildcats still lead the league in hitting at .297 with freshman Brandon Grudzielanek leading the league in hitting at .394, followed closely by teammate Seth Spivey, who is second at .391.
After this weekend's series, the Wildcats will take on Texas A&M at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Olsen Field in College Station.
