CANYON -- West Texas A&M scored eight runs in the fifth inning Sunday afternoon as the Buffaloes knocked off ACU, 11-2, in the finale of a four-game Lone Star Conference baseball series at Wilder Park.
The Buffaloes won the series, 3-1, to improve to 21-14 overall and 8-8 in the LSC. ACU, meanwhile, falls to 22-15 overall and 10-6 in the LSC. The Wildcats will be back in action this weekend when they host Cameron for a four-game set at Crutcher Scott Field.
ACU was leading 2-1 until the fifth when the Buffs sent 13 batters to the plate, collected five hits and scored two runs. ACU starting pitcher Ty Taylor went four-plus innings and was charged with five runs (all earned) before giving way to Austin Palmer.
Palmer didn't record an out, but gave up two hits and two runs before pulled in favor of Brady Rodriguez, who finished up the final four innings. Taylor was tagged with the loss, and he falls to 3-4 on the season.
ACU's only two runs came in the top of the second when J.R. Roland doubled to right field to drive in Chuck Duarte and Kyle Conwell. Aside from Roland's double, the Wildcats had only four other hits on the day against three WT pitchers.
