No. 37 Southern Indiana And Murray State No Match For No. 3 Men's Tennis

MURRAY, Ky. - Abilene Christian's third-ranked men's tennis team got off to a great start on its weekend road trip, defeating both No. 37 Southern Indiana and D-I Murray State of the Ohio Valley Conference Thursday afternoon at the Kenlake Tennis Center.
The Wildcats first beat their D-II rivals from USI, 6-3, before halting the Racers, 6-1. The two victories lifted ACU's early-season record to 3-1. Murray State remains winless this year at 0-5. Southern Indiana is 1-1.
Key to today's wins was the play of the Wildcats' doubles teams, which combined to go 6-0. The nationally third-ranked team of Hans Hach and Borja Cortes won both of its games at the top position as did the tandem of Guilherme Gesser and Jason Proctor at the No. 2 spot.
Newcomer Nicklas Wingord first teamed with Alfredo Desiati to beat the USI team of Santiago Lopez and Joel Stern, 8-1, and then paired with Marco Bensley to edge the Murray State duo of Nicholas Mitric and Max McLean, 8-6.
The doubles sweep came in handy vs. USI as the Screaming Eagles would go on to win half their singles matches for three points. But Hach - the No. 2 ranked player in DII - earned a straight-set win at No. 1 over Michael Kuzaj, 6-4, 6-2, for ACU's fourth point, and then Proctor grabbed the fifth point with his 6-1, 7-5, triumph over Rodrigo Flores at No. 6.
No. 42 Cortes claimed the Wildcats' sixth and final point with his comeback win at No. 3 vs. Lopez, 1-6, 6-2, 6-3.
ACU singles' players won five of six vs. the Racers following their second doubles sweep of the afternoon. Hach and Cortes won at No. 1 and 2, respectively, as both improved to 3-1 on the season.
Proctor came back from a set down to defeat McLean at No. 4, 6-7, 6-1, 12-10.
Wingord scored his first singles' victory as a Wildcat after beating Ryan Kennedy at No. 5, 6-1, 6-3, and Bensley triumphed over Mitric at the sixth position, 1-6, 6-4, 6-1.
The Wildcats' road trip continues Friday into Tennessee, where they'll face Belmont of the Ohio Valley Conference and Lipscomb of the Atlantic Sun Conference.
