No. 11 Wildcats Lose Pair Of 4-3 Games In Tennessee

ABILENE - Abilene Christian's 11th-ranked men's tennis team suffered two narrow defeats Friday as it dropped consecutive 4-3 dual matches to NCAA D-I squads from Belmont and Lipscomb.

The Wildcats (3-3) started their day by switching around its doubles pairings vs. Belmont of the Ohio Valley Confernce, but ended up losing the point there before going on to split its six singles matches.

Hans Hach earned the Wildcats' first singles win, topping Renato Antun at No. 1, 6-3, 6-2. Nicklas Wingord beat Navarro Veys at No. 4, 7-5, 6-1, and Jason Proctor bested Bruno Silva in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.

In doubles, Hach was paired for the first time this season with Wingord and together they beat the team of Henrique Norbiato and Fernando Mussolini, 8-4. Borja Cortes and Marco Bensley also made their debut today, but lost an 8-5 decision at No. 3 to Silva and Henrik Claesson.

Guilherme Gesser and Proctor were used for the first time this season at the No. 1 position after starting the year at 2-0, but were doubled up by Antun and Veys, 8-4.

ACU switched back to its standard doubles combinations vs. Lipscomb to win the dual's first point, but could only come away with two singles victories from Hach at No. 1 and Proctor at No. 5.

Hach's, 6-0, 6-1 win vs. Oliver Strecker put the Wildcats ahead 2-0; however, the Bison came right back with wins at the No. 3, 2 and 4 positions. Proctor's decision over Colby Shaw, 6-2, 6-3, then tied the score at 3-3, but Miguel Cortez clinched the match for Lipscomb following his 7-6, 6-2 triumph over Bensley at No. 6.

Hach - the No. 2 player in all of D-II - improved to 5-1 with today's victories. Proctor, meanwhile, lifted his season singles mark to 4-2.

The Wildcats conclude their trip Saturday in Clarksville, Tenn., with a match vs. Austin Peay at 1 p.m.
