Wentz pours in 19 points to help Wildcats to 78-56 win in San Angelo

SAN ANGELO – Sophomore guard Parker Wentz poured in 19 points and ACU held Northern New Mexico to just 36 percent shooting from the field Saturday evening as ACU won its second straight game with a 78-56 win over the Eagles at the San Angelo Community Medical Center Classic hosted by Angelo State.
The Wildcats are 2-5 on the season and will leave early Sunday morning to fly to Cincinnati where they will take on Xavier at the Cintas Center. The Musketeers out of the Big East Conference are 4-0 and has made two NCAA Tournament Elite Eight appearances in addition to three NCAA Sweet 16 appearances in the last 10 years.
Monday's game at Xavier is set for a 6 p.m. (Abilene time) tipoff and will be broadcast locally on 98.1 FM (on the internet at the98x.com) and will be broadcast to a national television audience on Fox Sports 1 (channel 258 on Abilene Suddenlink cable).
ACU never trailed in the game as it opened the game with a pair of 3-pointers from Austin Cooke and Wentz, who was 6 for 11 from the field, all from 3-point range. The 19 points for the sophomore from Lubbock are a season high.
ACU had a 16-2 run the bumped its lead to 24-10 with 9:34 remaining in the first half. Northern New Mexico never got closer than 7 after that.
LaDarrien Williams had 15 points and eight rebounds for the Wildcats, while Austin Cooke had 12 points and four rebounds for ACU. The Wildcats out-rebounded the Eagles 45-35 and shot 42.9 percent from the field (27 of 63), including 45.5 percent from 3-point range (10 of 22).
