Wildcats coast to opening win

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – The No.6-rankedACU Wildcats held serve in the Round of 16 Wednesday as they blanked the 48th-ranked Shaw University, 5-0, at the NCAA Division II Tennis Championships at Sanlando Park.
The win sends the sixth-ranked Wildcats move into the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tennis Championships where they will challenge defending national champion Barry (Fla.) University, a 5-4 first-round winner over No. 1-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State (Ga.). The match is scheduled for 8 a.m. Thursday from Sanlando Park.
Sweeping all three doubles contests, the Wildcats surrendered just four points in singles play to advance in the tournament.
In doubles, ACU registered three convincing victories, including two shutouts. The top flight and No.6 doubles pair of Hans Hach and Jake Hendrie blanked the their opponents, 8-0, while Nick Plum and Alfredo Desiati also registered a shutout victory of Andre Monti and Carlos Guarin. Bryan Joiner and Eldad Campbell wrapped up the impressive showing with an 8-4 win at the No.2 spot.
In singles, No.15 Hach quickly provided the team's fourth point with a straight set 6-1, 6-0 win at the top spot. It was followed shortly after by 6-1, 6-2 win by Joiner at No.5. Shaw's loss eliminates the Bears from the NCAA Tournament.
