ABILENE – The No. 7 ranked Wildcats shutout the Hilltoppers of St. Edward's in a mid-week non-conference matchup Tuesday afternoon. ACU (13-2, 6-2) knocked out 11 hits and three extra base hits from Aaron Oliver in a 7-0 win at Crutcher Scott Field.
Oliver finished 3 for 4 with two triples and double as he led off the bottom of the first with his first triple off the right field wall. He would score just two batters later when Will Calhoun's sacrifice fly to center field allowed Oliver to score his first of three runs on the day.
The Wildcats and Oliver would add another run in the third when he again led off the third with a triple that one-hopped the wall. Will Uechi singled down the right field line with his first of two RBI on the day.
ACU would add two more runs in the fifth inning when Clint Bowker scored after Oliver doubled in the left field gap for his only RBI. Oliver would steal third and score when Uechi smoked a ball by a drawn-in infield for his second RBI and second of three hits on the day.
In the seventh ACU added two more runs by Uechi and Calhoun who reached on back-to-back singles. Uechi would plate his run on a Travis Latz RBI while Calhoun scored on a sacrifice fly from Cameron Watten.
Cameron Bankston would cross home for the seventh and final run for the Wildcats after a pinch hit single to lead off the eighth inning.
Three players for ACU recorded multi-hit games – Oliver, Uechi, and Latz – while Uechi had two RBI.
Aaron Lambrix picked up his second win of the season pitching two innings of relief for starter Will Calhoun who went three innings.
The bullpen for ACU got plenty of action as Chay Lytle saw two innings while Ryan McCabe and Josh Crockett both saw one. Calhoun struck out three and walked one while Lambrix and Lytle both recorded a single strike out also.
The Wildcats start a four game Lone Star Conference Series with East Central on Friday. First pitch for Friday is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. as they will also play a twin bill on Saturday.
