ACU Drops one-run Game to Greyhounds

ABILENE – The Wildcats fell to Eastern New Mexico Friday night in another one-run ballgame, 4-3 at Crutcher Scott Field. A scheduled doubleheader was delayed after the second game was started, but inclement weather forced game two to be postponed.
The second game will attempt to be finished tomorrow at 2 p.m. with the possibility of finishing a triple header on Sunday. Sunday games would begin at 1 p.m.
In the first game ACU got another outstanding effort from their starting pitcher as Cameron Aspaas went 6.1 innings scattering six hits on only 67 pitches. Aspaas allowed a run in the first and third inning each of which was unearned; however a single a double by the Greyhounds tied the game at 3-3.
Wildcat reliever Brad Rutherford entered allowing another single to give Eastern New Mexico the eventual game winning run.
The Wildcats picked up a run in the first and second innings to take a 2-1 lead. Three consecutive hits including a walk to Bret Bochsler brought Cameron Bankston to the plate who delivered a one out RBI single putting ACU on the board.
ACU picked up their second run on a sacrifice fly by Steve Camillucci. Cameron Watten scored after he reached on a walk to lead off the inning.
Aaron Oliver picked up his 14 RBI when he singled through the left side scoring Abe Williams giving ACU a 3-1 lead. The lead would stand until the top of the seventh rally by Eastern New Mexico.
The Wildcats and Greyhounds will finish the series if possible tomorrow at 2 p.m. If officials decide the field is still too wet a triple header will be played at Crutcher Scott on Sunday with a first pitch to resume tonights game scheduled for 1 p.m.
