Carpenter picks up second win

FORT WORTH -- ACU freshman Alex Carpenter continued his strong spring campaign Monday as he won the individual medalist title for the second week in a row, leading the Wildcats to a second-place finish at the UST Texas Intercollegiate.

Carpenter – who won the individual title last week at the Red River Intercollegiate in Thackerville, Okla. – fired a two-round total of 136 (66-70) to finish at 8-under-par at the par-72, 6,847-yard Hawks Creek Golf Course. 

The Wildcats placed three golfers in the top eight as junior Cyril Bouniol finished tied for sixth at 140 (72-68) and Kyle Dickerson finished tied for eighth at 141 (71-70).

ACU finished with a two-round team total of 564 after shooting rounds of 284 on Sunday and 280 on Monday.  Oklahoma City University won the team title at 561 (281-280), followed by ACU at 564, Sam Houston State at 569 (277-292) in third, Oklahoma Christian at 577 (286-291) in fourth and Texas Wesleyan at 579 (292-287) in fifth.

Carpenter won the individual medalist title by one stroke over Clark Collier of Oklahoma City, who finished at 137 (69-68) and two strokes over Michael Palmer of Oklahoma City, who finished at 138 (71-67).  Carpenter's opening-round 66 tied for the low round of the tournament.

ACU will be back in action March 29-30 at the Dallas Baptist Patriot Classic, which will be played at The Golf Club of Dallas.
