SAN ANTONIO - Thomas Buisson finished runner-up at the Military City Collegiate presented by USAA at TPC San Antonio's Canyons Course on Tuesday. He guided Abilene Christian men's golf to a fourth-place showing with the best finish by a Wildcat since the 2020-21 season.
ACU looks to continue its momentum at the Golden Nugget Invitational, hosted by Lamar at The Country Club at the Golden Nugget in Lake Charles, La. on March 2-3. It's the Wildcats' third tournament in three weeks to begin the spring campaign.
Buisson closed at an even-par 216 alongside UT Arlington's Arth Sinha, just one stroke back of individual champion Joshua Hong from host UTSA. The Roadrunners rose three spots in Tuesday's final round to capture the victory at 17-over 881. ACU recorded a 27-over 891 while matching its top placement of the season.
Buisson registered the first top-two performance by a Wildcat since Alex Clouse and Zane Heusel finished first and second, respectively, at The Big Texan at Comanche Trace in Kerrville, Texas on March 22-23, 2021.
It's the best outing of the senior's career, topping his tie for 14th place at the Florida Atlantic Invitational in the fall. Buisson shot 2-over 74 in the final round and tied for fourth in the field with 11 birdies. He drew for sixth on par-3 and par-4 holes while tying for 10th on par 5s.
The Wildcats ranked second in the field on par 3s and par 5s at 9-over and 7-under, respectively. They tied for the second-fewest bogeys and collected the fifth-most birdies with 38. ACU tied for third with 155 pars and was one of just three teams with multiple eagles.
Sophomores Jack Hollingsed and Colin Leonard followed in ties for 26th place at 10-over 226. Hollingsed tied for 10th on par 5s at 3-under and scored the fifth-fewest bogeys in the field, good for the fewest by a Wildcat. Leonard drew for 10th with 34 pars.
Tres Hill logged a 13-over 229 to tie for 38th, followed by Grégoire Hoyeau in a draw for 45th at 15-over 231. Hill tied for sixth with 35 pars, while Hoyeau tallied nine birdies and drew for sixth on par 3s at 1-over.
Preston DeFriend rounded things out for ACU while competing as an individual. He tied for 65th at 26-over 242.
