Heated rivals set for key game

ACU Gameday Central

ABILENE – The game that has been circled on the calendars of every player at ACU and West Texas A&M since January is finally here as the Lone Star Conference's two fiercest rivals renew their hostilities Saturday at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium.

Kickoff is set for 6:05 p.m. and can be heard locally on Mix 92.5 FM.  For those fans in Abilene and the Big Country who can't make the trip to Canyon, the game will be televised live on KTAB-TV (cable channel 10; 110 on Suddenlink HD).  Fans around the world can listen to the game free on the internet on the Mix 92.5 Web site (http://radiotime.com/station/s_35901/Mix_925.aspx).

The unbeaten and No. 2-ranked Wildcats are 9-0 overall, 8-0 in the LSC and 5-0 in the LSC South, while the 14-ranked Buffaloes enter the game at 7-2, 7-1 and 4-1.  An ACU win would give ACU the LSC South title outright and clinch at least a tie for the LSC championship.  An ACU win would also put West Texas A&M squarely on the bubble for an NCAA Division II playoff berth with three losses.  ACU is No. 1 in Super Region Four in the first regional poll of the season, while West Texas A&M was ranked No. 5.

The top six teams in the region will earn a spot in the playoffs, and those pairings will be announced next Sunday (Nov. 14).

LAST TIME OUT
ACU:
Ssophomore quarterback Mitchell Gale completed 27 of 41 passes for 377 yards and four touchdowns in leading his team to a 9-0 overall and 5-0 record in the South Division of the Lone Star Conference. Neither team had much success running the ball, but the Wildcats made life more difficult for the Rams, limiting them to minus-23 yards on the ground and tackling Angelo State ball carriers 17 times for losses. Gale threw TD passes of 4 and 7 yards to former six-man football star Emery Dudensing, 9 yards to Raymond Radway, and 59 yards to Edmund Gates, who moved to No. 2 on the ACU career receiving yards list while totaling more than 100 yards (128) for the fifth straight game.
Angelo State: The 14th-ranked West Texas A&M Buffaloes scored 21 first quarter points en route to pinning a 49-10 defeat on Incarnate Word.  The Buffaloes started quickly, driving 69 yards for a touchdown on their initial drive. A 12 yard pass from Taylor Harris to Trevor Hammergren set up first and goal from the UIW three. From there, Jay Tillman bulled up the middle for a three-yard TD run as the Buffs took a 7-0 lead just 2:23 into the contest.  The Buffs' second possession began at the UIW 47 and it also resulted in seven points, with Harris finding Brittan Golden over the middle on a 12-yard toss. Golden fought his way into the end zone, giving WT a 14-0 lead just 5:56 into the contest.
